Tour de France 2017 stage 1 was an individual time trial of 14 kilometers in Düsseldorf, Germany. The stage was held on July 1, 2017, and marked the start of the 104th edition of the prestigious cycling race. The stage was won by Geraint Thomas of Team Sky, who clocked a time of 16 minutes and 4 seconds, beating Stefan Küng of BMC Racing Team by 5 seconds and Vasil Kiryienka of Team Sky by 7 seconds. Thomas became the first Welshman to wear the yellow jersey as the leader of the general classification. The stage was marred by several crashes due to wet conditions, which forced Alejandro Valverde and Ion Izagirre to abandon the race with serious injuries.
